Abstract

Starting from the issues associated with the European Heritage Label, we go through Edwards Said´s Imaginative Geographies, looking for a new epistemological approach in the way of looking at places, territories and landscapes. In this context, we can see how the heritagescape of Sagres Promontory, with particular regard to the town of Lagos, plays a fundamental role in the epistemological decolonization, first of all through the emphasis given to the heritage associated with slavery there, which can help us in this process. We also observe how the concept of post-memory can help us to deconstruct the imaginative geographies and create more human imaginary geographies, that liberate us from the myth of objectivity of knowledge creation. More than a Slavery Route we propose to take the first steps in the process of mental and epistemological decolonization.
