Leadership has an important role in creating value, innovation and in articulating strategies for implementing knowledge management. From the companies that agreed to participate in the study, 30 responses were obtained from top leaders and managers. In order to identify and characterize the existing leadership in the health companies studied, and based on the literature review previously carried out, a questionnaire was elaborated which, after being adapted to the reality of the health companies, was validated by four specialists in the areas of strategic management and health management. The method for the research was quantitative analysis, where the case study was carried out through questionnaires. Thus, in this article, we highlight the characteristics and skills related to organizational leadership and what are the characteristics and skills needed for a leader according to the opinion of Portuguese workers.
