Focus and Scope

 

Dos Algarves: Tourism, Hospitality & Management Journal (DATHMJ)  is an open access journal aiming at promoting academic knowledge within the social sciences. The journal publishes original research in the broad areas of tourism, hospitality and management, and related areas.
DATHMJ publishes articles in Portuguese and English and accepts the following types of submissions: full research articles, critical literature reviews and research reports (For more information, please consult the Call for Papers).
The journal encourages submissions from young researchers who are new to their fields as well as from more established scholars.
The journal welcomes proposals for special issues.

Peer Review Process

 

This journal uses double-blind review process. 
Each new submission is initially read by the editors, who assess the originality and potential impact of the work, the appropriateness for the journal's scope, the conceptual or methodological advances described in the paper, and its potential interest to DATHMJ. After this desk selection, the manuscript is sent to at least two reviewers who are part of the journal´s Scientific Board or external experts. The Editors reserve the right to suggest modifications of form or content to the authors to suit the journal's standards and scope. Any amendments shall be agreed with the authors. The normal time span for completion of the review process is from three to nine months.
DATHMJ also provides a thorough linguistic review for each manuscript that is accepted for publication.

 

 

Open Access Policy

The journal will only publish open access content, following the principle that releasing scientific knowledge free of charge to the public generates a greater worldwide democratization of knowledge. The journal provides, via its own website, immediate and unrestricted access to the final published version of the paper, which is made available using the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY NC SA) licence, and allows immediate deposit of the final published version in other repositories without restriction on re‐use.  The CC BY NC SA license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms.

 

Archiving

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create an archive distributed among the participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoral. Learn more...

 

Code of Ethics

 

For all parties involved in the act of publishing (the authors, the journal editors, the peer reviewers, and the publisher) it is necessary to agree upon standards of expected ethical behaviour. The ethics statements for Dos Algarves: Tourism, Hospitality & Management Journal (DATHMJ) are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct guidelines available at www.publicationethics.org.

The Editorial Board is responsible for deciding which of the research papers/articles submitted to the journal should be published and for preventing publication malpractice. Unethical behaviour is unacceptable and the DATHMJ does not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

1. Editors’ responsibilities

Publication decisions: Editors are accountable for everything published in the journal and strive to meet the needs of readers and authors. Editors’ decisions to accept or reject a paper for publication should be based on the reviews and manuscript’s academic and scientific value.

Review of publications: The editors ensure that each manuscript is initially evaluated by the editors, who may make use of appropriate means to examine the originality of the contents of the manuscript and ensure the quality of the material.

Fair review: Editors should strive to ensure that peer review at their journal is fair, unbiased and timely. The editors ensure that each manuscript received is evaluated on its intellectual content without regard to authors’ gender, race, religion, citizenship, etc.

Confidentiality: The editors and any additional staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate. The editors must ensure that information regarding manuscripts submitted by the authors is kept confidential.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest: Editors should require reviewers to disclose any potential competing interests before agreeing to review a submission.

2. Authors’ responsibilities

Reporting standards: Authors reporting results of original research must present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

Originality and plagiarism: The authors must ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work(s) of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication: An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Parallel submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.

Authorship of a manuscript: Authorship should be limited only to those who have made a significant contribution to conceiving, designing, executing and/or interpreting the submitted study. All those who have significantly contributed to the study should be listed as co-authors. The corresponding author should also ensure that all the authors and co-authors have seen and approved the final submitted version of the manuscript and their inclusion as co-authors.

Disclosure and conflicts of interest: All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or their interpretation in the manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental errors in published works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal’s editors and cooperate with them to either retract the paper or to publish an appropriate correction statement or erratum.

3. Reviewers’ responsibilities

Confidentiality: Manuscript reviewers, the editors and the editorial staff must not disclose any information regarding submitted manuscripts. All submitted manuscripts are to be treated as privileged information. Editors should provide guidance to reviewers on everything that is expected of them including the need to handle submitted material in confidence.

Acknowledgement of sources: Reviewers must ensure that authors have acknowledged all sources of data used in the research. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editors’ attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Standards of objectivity: Review of submitted manuscripts will be conducted objectively. The reviewers shall express their views clearly, with supporting arguments. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.

Promptness: If a reviewer believes it is not possible for him/her to review the research reported in a manuscript within the designated guidelines, or within stipulated time, he/she must notify the editors, so that the accurate and timely review can be assured.

Conflict of interest: All reviewers should have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the author(s) and/or the funding bodies.

4. Change or modification of published paper

Replacement: The papers published can be replaced if the author(s) send an updated paper. If the paper were replaced, the following should be done:

  • The paper in journal database should be replaced,
  • The link in online publication site should be replaced,
  • Next phrase or similar phrase to announce the reason should be shown below the paper title in online publication paper list: ‘This paper was replaced because author(s) sent an updated version. Contact editors if you want to check the old version’,
  • Old version should be kept separately, and if someone wants to check the old version, the editors can send the PDF to him/her,
  • Note that the replacement is acceptable only one time.

Removal: The published papers will be removed if reviewers, readers, librarians, publishers or other subjects notice significant errors or plagiarism. Before removing a paper, editors should talk with author(s) sufficiently, and should provide enough time to have author’s/authors’ explanation. If the paper is removed, then it follows that:

  • The paper in journal database should be removed,
  • The link in online publication site should be removed,
  • Next phrase or similar phrase to announce the reason should be shown below the paper title in online publication paper list: ‘This paper was removed because of plagiarism’.

5. Penalties

Double submission: If double submission is found or noticed from other sources, editors should check the status. If the double submission is confirmed as intentional thing, then the following actions will be taken:

  • Review process will be terminated,
  • The reason should be sent to reviewers, editorial board and author(s),
  • All authors’ name will be marked as black list, and these authors will not be able to submit any paper to Dos Algarves: Tourism, Hospitality & Management Journal.

Double Publication: If double publication is found or noticed from other sources, editors should check the status, and the following actions will be carried out:

  • This should be reported to author(s),
  • This should be sent to the publisher who published same (or very similar) paper,
  • All authors’ name will be marked as black list, and these authors will not be able to submit any paper to Dos Algarves: Tourism, Hospitality & Management Journal.

Plagiarism: If plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) is found or noticed from other sources, editors should check the status, and the following actions will be carried out:

  • This should be reported to author(s),
  • This should be sent to the publisher who published same (or very similar) paper,
  • Paper will be removed according to ‘Removal’ part in section 4,
  • All authors’ name will be marked as black list, and these authors will not be able to submit any paper to Dos Algarves: Tourism, Hospitality & Management Journal.

 

 

Publication Charges

 

DATHMJ does not charge any kind of publication fee.

 

 

Plagiarism and Self-plagiarism

 

If plagiarism and self-plagiarism is discovered during the review process, the paper is automatically rejected.

All manuscripts received are verified via Urkund software.

 

 

Editorial Statute

 

Object: Journal of original national and international scientific production, produced by researchers in the subject areas of tourism, hospitality, business management, business finance, social sciences applied to tourism, hospitality and management, applied computing and human sciences, specifically, linguistics and applied languages.

Objective: To create an international space for academic discussion in the areas of tourism, hospitality, business management, business finance, social sciences applied to tourism, hospitality and management, applied computing and human sciences, specifically, linguistics and applied languages and to disseminate original scientific production produced by researchers in these areas.

Formal framework: The Dos Algarves: Tourism, Hospitality and Management Journal respects the deontological principles of freedom of the press and professional ethics, whilst meeting the needs of the readership and the common good.
